Conyers Applauds Obama Administration Immigration Fix That Keeps American Families Together

(WASHINGTON) – Yesterday, the Obama Administration announced a common sense proposal to fix a bureaucratic snag in our immigration system which often results in the prolonged separation of hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens from their children and spouses.  House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) released the following statement in response to the announcement:

“I applaud the announcement by the Obama Administration to further improve the country’s broken immigration system to help keep American families together,” said Conyers.  “The current system now forces certain U.S. citizens to leave the country or endure long separation from their immigrant spouses and minor children when seeking to obtain green cards for them.  This causes undue hardship and makes absolutely no sense.  The Administration’s simple proposal to process family unity waiver applications in the United States would eliminate such draconian choices and help U.S. citizens stay with their spouses and children while navigating our complicated immigration laws.”
