Detroit, MI – Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (MI-13) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a request by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to reinstate the ban on straight party ticket voting in Michigan:
Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives John Conyers, Jr. |
“The right to vote is one that many have fought and died for here in America. Unfortunately, we have seen far too many Republican-controlled state legislatures attack this right over the last several years.
“The mean-spirited law to ban straight party ticket voting in Michigan would have infringed upon voters’ access to the ballot box. I applaud the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold our straight party ticket voting system. I will continue to fight for the rights of voters in Michigan and across this Nation.”
